A fun Tales of game that I missed back in the PS3 days. A solid JRPG and a decent remaster. My only complaints are that the original voice cast wasn't called back in to add more dialogue to the extra content, they used other voice actors instead, I found it very off-putting and distracting, a minor complaint, but it's there regardless. I chose to play with Japanese voices, it eased my pain.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is truly a love letter from Namco Tales Studios to fans of the franchise. While the main story is a touch trite and the combat a little dull, it’s worth it to accompany this cast of interesting and nuanced characters on their journey to save the day. — David Lee

While it remains the best Tales game, Vesperia does little to revolutionize the JRPG genre. Of course, it's just a remaster of an old game, but I'd have expected that some of the mechanics would be modernized. The Linear Motion Battle System rarely rises above decent, and the control scheme is weird, to say the least. Still, for all the missed opportunities, Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition perfectly catches the spirit of the series. Its biggest achievement is that it puts a great cast of characters front and center without compromising the JRPG-centric narrative style. Although it does little to refine the Tales formula, Vesperia is clearly a must-play for any JRPG fan, if not for the rather uninspired and predictable story, but for the characterization, great voice acting and more often than not hilarious conversations. story 7 gameplay 8 concept 8 graphics 7 audio 8 multiplayer 0 final rating 8
