I love my Epson 7800 which has been chugging along for many years. I use only Epson ink and it has paid off with not clogs that 1-2 cleaning cycles couldnt remedy even after a month or two of no use. At my use rate, a 220 ml cartridge lasts 1 to 3 years!

I've had my 7880 for 9 years; a 9900 for 5. By a wide margin, the 7880 skin tones are far superior. The red hue of caucasian skin comes through without overpowering. In contrast, the 9900 seems to have pronounced red shift on all the Epson papers. Not certain if it is the ink or profile. But, the Vivid Light Magenta in the 7880 is a winner - not to mention that my 7880 is still running and my 9900 lost a color channel. Thanks to Epson's $2400 estimate to replace the print head, it's now a 150lb paper weight :-( Epson 7880 if skin tone is paramount.

Out of all the colors of ink jet ink, yellow is the very best. I find that I would not print without it. It is just that good. It helps greens look more green and it is fairly essential for colors that are yellow. The one drawback to this color is that it is hard to perceive in tests for a clogged head. Hopefully this will be changed in future revisions of this product.

Ultrachrome inks are vivid AND ARCHIVAL!! Ultrachrome inks will dry up in the printer head if the printer is left dormant for an extended time period. To prevent same, print every several days.

There are after market inks in the market. If you are printing for yourself or others, many artist like to think their work will survive long beyond their years. The UltraChrome inks are tested and with the proper paper your prints should be around for a very long time.
