Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 on ultra-high-performance-talvirengas, joka sijoittuu monissa riippumattomissa testeissä aivan kärkeen. Rengas erottuu erinomaisella pidolla ja lyhyillä jarrutusmatkoilla lumella, märällä ja kuivalla, ja ohjaus on samalla hyvin tarkka ja ennustettava. Auto tuntuu siksi urheilulliselta mutta silti turvalliselta myös suuremmissa nopeuksissa. Pilot Alpin 5 tunnetaan lisäksi pitkästä käyttöiästä, vähäisestä kulumisesta ja luokassaan kohtuullisesta polttoaineenkulutuksesta. Monet käyttäjät arvostavat myös alhaista melutasoa ja hyvää mukavuutta näin suorituskykyiseksi talvirenkaaksi. Haittapuolina ovat selvästi keskimääräistä korkeampi hinta ja se, että sivuttaisessa vesiliirrossa rengas ei aina ole testien aivan paras. Osa kuljettajista kokee ajotuntuman myös melko jämäkäksi ja kovaksi teräviin töyssyihin. Niille, jotka ovat valmiita maksamaan enemmän, rengas tarjoaa kuitenkin erittäin tasapainoisen yhdistelmän turvallisuutta, suorituskykyä ja kestävyyttä.

Très bonne tenue de route, assez silencieux, très bonne prise dans la neige et très pneus qui bonne tenue sur la glace, répond bien sur la route en hiver, dans les courbes et sur les arrêts. Je les recommande.

Great winter tires for a performance car (2026 VW GTI Autobahn). They are quiet, comfortable. The car handles lioke it was on rails on twisty mountain roads and Interstates. Excellent for snow and ice winter conditions and excellent when roads are dry or wet (unlike other winter tires).

I live in Calgary where winters have constant thawing and freezing cycles, making road conditions treacherous at times. These are very capable tires when new or slightly worn and have decent tread durability. At approximately 35,000 Kms with timely tire rotations and maintaining pressures regularly, they are now worn down evenly to 6/32nds of an inch remaining (approx. 50% worn). I was hoping to get another winter out of them, but I no longer feel safe driving on icy surfaces as they don`t grip nearly as well as they used to. Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable, but I am a bit disappointed in their deterioration in traction, stability and performance at this stage.
