This focal length isn't in my preferred range so I was willing to compromise somewhat. Overall, I am glad I did, though I would have loved this lens to reach down to 24mm FL at which I take the majority of my shots. Generally I use the Sony 16-35 for this - 24mm being one of its strengths, while 35 is clearly not. So, at 28mm + the Tamron fills a useful role. Compared to the Sony at for me. At 28-35mm its about equal or one stop better at 28 but clearly superior at 35 on the Sony. In the field this shows up very clearly and I have been quite pleased with some of the images, particularly those in which I have used focus stacking to gain extra acuity. A worthwhile purchase. Build quality wise, it's clearly second best to the Sony range, so look after it because its doesn't feel like it can handle hard use.

This lens is great for wide angle shots and semi telephoto shots. At a third of the price of the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8, this is a great alternative to have in your camera bag.

We can all find things wrong with anything, and primarily being a prime lens user there is something I dont like about this lens, but its all in how you use it that makes the difference. The Tamron 28-75mm is extremely sharp, focus is awesome, and it works incredibly well with my Sony A7RIII and A9. It is great for both photo and video, has excellent tracking in continuous auto focus in both photo and film, adjusts well on its own, and I havent had any issues accomplishing what I want to with this lens, either manually or in auto. I havent seen any distortion or vignetting in any of my images from wide to tight. My favorite part is that it is so incredibly light weight! SO MUCH different than my previous Tamron 24-70mm, which was way heavier to use, though just as sharp. If you dont mind losing the extra 4mm on the wide end, save your money from buying the super expensive Sony lenses...this lens wont let you down. Well worthy of 5 stars for the performance I have seen.

I love this lens! As an owner of the 85mm 1.8, 70-200 Gmaster, 50mm 1.8 and 90mm 2.8 macro, this lens gets used as much as, if not more than any of the other lenses. People will complain about 28mm vs 24mm, but I havent had any issues with it. People will complain about the focus, but I have found it to be just as fast and accurate as any of those sony lenses I own in both photo and video mode. Sure, the GMASTER 24-70 is an overall better lens, but with the price jump increase, its very hard to justify. Thats a lot of money to save to invest in other different lenses. Lets hope that Tamron puts out a 75mm-200 soon.
