Hitachi - LG GP57EW40 External drive (GP57EW40)

This is a great external DVD player/ re-writer. It's quick, not too loud and so far, I'm really pleased with it.

This is quite simply a little treasure find. I came here to find a basic portable CD/DVD player and found also the fantastic software bundle that has been a pleasant and useful surprise that has allowed greater productivity in creating videos, burning cd/dvds etc. Really good value.

I bought this for my wife to be able to watch her DVDs on her laptop. It arrived on Wednesday and by Thursday evening it had stopped playing any discs that we put into it. My wife has been watching True Blood on it and the discs were all new. She has also been using VLC media player, which is what I use on my PC with no issues. I have been looking into the issues that she has been getting and the most prominent articles I could find all point to poor build quality and general unreliability of this disc drive. My recommendation to anyone looking at buying this disc drive is don't. Spend your money on something else.

At last I've found a unit that works with my Surface Pro 3. All good so far.
