I have two of these things in my workstation and they are monsters. No matter what I throw at this computer, it never slows down. I can run databases, encode HD videos, watch hd videos, do programming, compiling, and debugging all at the same time and it never lags.

Built a few severs on this chip. One dual CPU setup in a 4U supermicro chassis with 96GB of RAM, couple LSI cards, 240TB (raw) storage via 2nd chassis and some flash storage. This one's an ESXi host. The chips do very well providing 32 threads to ESXi in an environment where VMs are regularly stood up and burned down. Another was a backup server that will likely get a couple other non critical apps thrown on it (monitoring, etc). Single CPU setup but when considering the small price increase to jump to this from a 1620, and you're using apps that are multi thread aware and don't require the single core performance, why not??

8 cores, 16 logical cores, 2.1GHz with turbo... Outstanding server processor for a hypervisor. Most servers need more cores than Mhz. this thing does the job very well, all while just sipping power.

Almost no point writing a review for an Intel CPU since everyone generally knows what they do. Stuffing two of these into a dual-Xeon mobo (X10DRL-I-O in my case) resulted in an excellent 16-core/32-thread system (8-core/16-thread per socket) which topped out at 200W power consumption at the AC outlet running at full load. -Matt

Fantastic for usage in a development PC seeing high load from compiling. Running a dual processor configuration with this and have 9m44s full compilation of Unreal Engine 4.
