I used an aftermarket lens cap (same style) and I had problems in that it was a little larger in diameter and would not allow me to take the lens hood on or off without removing it. The Sony lens cap allows you to take the lens hood on and off with the lens cap in place.

I needed to get this for my Zeiss Batis line of lenses because I got one 77mm ND filter and a step up to let me use it on all four lenses. This lens cap works great and allows me to cap my smaller lenses even when they have the larger 77mm filter on them.

.I use it on a 72mm lens which has a 72-77 adapter so i can use my set of 77mm filters on all lenses.

I use the cap to cover my 77mm polarizer that I use on my 72mm lens. I needed the cap since my 72mm cap would not cover the polarizer. Works fine.
