I've had this hard drive for two days. It was easy to use, just plug and play. At least that's what I hoped. But since it didn't come with a proper manual, I have know way of knowing for sure. The "manual" that comes pre-loaded on the hard drive is not even for this model. But that isn't even the worst part. The hard simply shuts it's self off randomly. I cannot even get it to transfer one , 1GB movie without it shutting off. It has a red indicator light that literally flashes more than a bad wi-fi connection. I finally managed to move what it said was a full folder of images (around 2 GB), when I attempted to open the file to check that all images had been copied, it could not index them, nor could I open any of them. It was as if it had only received partial files. I can only assume it was because it was never "on" long enough to finish a single transfer. What a waste of money.

It appears that this "rugged" drive succumbed to a design flaw in that the enclosure has some rigged bars that brace against the metal drive enclosure. They were pressed against the metal which put pressure on the disk which caused a failure. I loosened all the screws on the inside metal case and the spindle started to spin and I can retrieve the data but I can not put this back together and have it work. I will pull my data off and on to something more reliable.

Although i bought this as a gift, i first plugged into XBox One. Then figured i should run CrystalDiskInfo to confirm specs. It had: 0 power on hours, a power on count of 2 (before connecting to Xbox, then PC for tests) & the described USB 3.0 capabilities & (5400) RPM spin speed. Health status was good. Unit was quiet and aesthetically pleasing. Friend needed for XBox One, and so far, has been working flawlessly. Previously, I've purchased one SiliconPower (MLC SSD) drive for my PC's OS drive. Had that drive for ~1 year and it works beautifully. I like the vast purchase options & "bang for your buck" as well as good quality/performance. Certainly recommend SiliconPower drives as of this review.

I am beyond disappointed. the Toshiba brand broke on me I figured maybe I needed a rugged one. The (major) downfall for this one is you cannot use any 3rd party cable. I looked through questions for this listing and some say you can’t either. I was hopefully and tried about 10 different cables!!!! I’m done. I’m finding a new drive. If it’s for MacBooks too, there should be consideration to provide a USB A to C cable. Still shaking my head in Disappointment.

No issues either way. Seems like a nice portable HD. I use it only on my desktop. I haven’t seen what it was like “traveling.”
